Homecare

What We Do

R&L Helpmates provides non-medical, personalized care to senior citizens and disabled persons in their homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes and hospitals. While many of our consumers are among the elderly population, our staff also has the expertise to assist mentally or physically disabled adults. Our trained caregivers are a valuable resource to those suffering from chronic illnesses (including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia), or recuperating from an accident, illness or surgery. In addition, R&L Helpmates has home health aides on staff who are fluent in Spanish to better assist the growing Spanish community in the greater Hazleton area.

Our Services Include:

Bathing, Dressing, Grooming Assistance

Daily activities such as bathing and personal grooming can become daunting, or impossible, tasks for our elderly and disabled consumers. We can assist with these tasks to make sure you and your loved ones are properly cared for at home every day.

Companionship

We all need a friend to lend us an ear from time or time, or carry on a good conversation. Our direct care workers are personable and friendly, and they’re great company. Upon request, they’re happy to read aloud to you, watch your favorite television show or listen to your stories. Providing companionship is an important aspect of what we do as personal caregivers.

Doctor Appointments

The health and well-being of our consumers is our top priority. We’ll help you get ready for your next medical appointment, and provide dependable transportation to and from the doctor’s office.

Errands and Shopping

From picking up prescriptions at the pharmacy to buying groceries, we’re happy to run errands and shop for our consumers.

Home Transition

For those newly-released from a hospital stay, undergoing rehabilitation services or coming out of a nursing home, R&L Helpmates will ensure the transition from healthcare facility to home is a smooth one, for as long as you require.

Hospice Assistance

A common misconception about hospice is that it is 24-hour a day care. This is true for those admitted into hospice facilities, but for those receiving hospice care elsewhere, a hospice nurse will likely visit the patient once or twice a day and leave notes for family members who are at work. This is where we can help. Our direct care workers can stay with your loved one in between visits from the hospice nurse, giving you peace of mind that your family member isn’t alone for long periods of time.

Laundry & Linen Changes

It doesn’t take long for laundry to pile up when you’re recovering from an illness or coping with a physical disability. Let us help with daily chores such as laundry, ironing and making the bed to maintain a healthy lifestyle and environment.

Light Housekeeping

Maintaining a clean environment is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We can help by tidying up clutter, dusting, vacuuming and providing other light housekeeping duties upon request.

Meal Prep and Cleanup

When it comes to maintaining good health or recovering from an illness, proper nutrition is critical. There’s no need to skip meals because cooking and cleanup is too daunting a task. Stay on track with meals prepared by our staff with no worries about how the dishes will get done.

Medication Reminders

Staying on schedule with your medications is important, and when multiple medications are required, it can get confusing. Our trained caregivers will remind you when it’s time to take your medicine.

Range of Motion and Mobility Exercises

Range-of-motion (ROM) exercises relieve stiffness and increase your ability to move your joints through their full range of motion. These exercises involve moving your joints through their normal range of movement, such as raising your arms over your head or rolling your shoulders forward and backward. They can be done daily or every other day (mayoclinic.org).  Our staff is trained to help those whose treatment plans include ROM and mobility exercises to ensure your exercises are completed on schedule.

Recreational Activities

When a stroll through the park, a family member’s Little League game or a trip to your local community center is on the agenda, our caregivers will help you make the most of the recreational activities important to you.

Respite Care

In many cases, family members are the primary caregivers for elderly parents or relatives, or those who are disabled. We provide respite relief to give these devoted family members a much-needed break from their duties. In addition to giving you peace of mind that your loved one is not alone, we’ll also do light housekeeping and meal preparation to help you cross items off your to-do list for the day.

Toileting and Incontinent Care

Our home health caregivers maintain the privacy and dignity of our consumers at all times, and are trained to assist those who require toileting and incontinent care.

Transferring and Positioning Assistance

If you need help getting from Point A to Point B, we can help. Our direct care workers are trained in transferring and positioning consumers safely.
