They’re friendly and outgoing with the ability to adapt to a variety of environments and situations. They act quickly when needed, and they’re creative and resourceful. They’re honest and reliable caregivers our consumers know they can depend upon when it matters most. Committed to helping the elderly and those with mental or physical disabilities maintain a sense of independence and dignity, our direct care workers truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Successful direct care worker candidates are those who are nurturing and kind with exceptional oral and written communication skills. They are observant, cautious, and able to assess situations and act accordingly. They exhibit sound judgment and manage their time well. They are also knowledgeable about relevant drugs and medications, and they adhere to legal and ethical standards upheld by R&L Helpmates. In addition, direct care workers also must pass a criminal background check.

Qualifications

If you have a high school diploma or GED, are at least 18 years old, and interested in helping others, a career as an R&L Helpmates direct care worker may be in your future. We offer flexible schedules and competitive compensation, and we provide special training and support to everyone on staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

Our direct care workers assist individuals with daily activities in the comfort of their home.

They complete a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to: making beds, doing laundry, preparing and serving meals, doing dishes, ironing, light cleaning, bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, providing skin care treatments, transfers, ambulating and positioning.

Additional duties may include: medication reminders, shopping, accompanying consumers to appointments and communicating with family members about the status of the health of their loved one. Offering companionship by engaging in conversation, sitting and listening to our consumers, or reading to those we care for upon their request are also important aspects of the work we do.
